Sustainability, responsible treatment of nature, and optimal use of existing resources are mottos and company philosophy at KIAS. These considerations form the basis for a quantum leap in the reuse of old tires which differs fundamentally from the previously practiced thermal reuse and simple landfill dumping and which follows KIAS‘ principles formulated above.

The plant breaks down old tires into their components rubber, steel, and textile cord. The end product is high-quality materials which can be used for the manufacture of new products such as fall protection mats, step noise damping, sports equipment, playgrounds, etc.
KIAS also developed its own reutilization tracks leading to new products for the steel and textile cord portions which arise during reprocessing.

Between 5.5 and 6 million old tires arise annually in Austria alone. Through the ecologically and economically sensible reutilization of old tires, KIAS makes an important contribution to the sustainable use of natural resources and thereby to the protection of the environment.

Recycling plant
KIAS recycling system of is characterized by high flexibility in reutilization and first-class quality of the recycled materials. The use of the most modern technology ensures the best possible fulfillment of the most varied customer requirements. The annual processing capacity is 30,000 tons of old tires, from which either 18,000 tons of rubber granulate or up to 6,000 to rubber dust can be produced.

The system was planned and built in keeping with the very latest technological developments.
The technology used works at room temperature (warm milling).

The production systems are located in closed operating halls; the presorting and milling is performed in a covered area immediately next to the processing machines in the operating hall.

The rubber milling systems are to a great extent encapsulated so that air from the processing points can be sucked up and be cleaned to the greatest extent possible via dust filters. This ensures that no air contamination occurs for the employees and environment.
In addition, the minimization of noise through appropriate damping measures was taken into account as early as the planning phase. For this purpose, calculations and measurements were made by independent experts in order to ensure optimal protection for bystanders and employees.

The environmental friendliness of the recycling system is ensured due to the combination of measures carried out.

The system is divided into:

The sorted tires are milled using rotary sheers into palm-sized peces (tire shreds).

The tire schreds are milled in a multistep process in a modern granulation press.

This is followed by a complex separation and purification processes, which ensures the highest quality standards for the final product.

This is characteristic for the KIAS plant, on the one hand the highest quality standards achieved and on the other hand the most varied customer requirements can be best met by a maximum of flexibility.
